Autodesk VRED has its own collaboration server that lets multiple VRED workstations join a shared session over IP. When each of those workstations streams its session to an Apple Vision Pro through Innoactive Spatial, participants see the same scene from different physical locations, hear each other's voice, and see each other as VRED avatars in the scene.
This is different from co-located or remote collaboration on the Vision Pro itself, where multiple headsets share a single visionOS session over WiFi (Bonjour) or FaceTime (SharePlay). Here, the collaboration is happening on the VRED side — one VRED session shared across workstations, with each workstation streaming to its own headset.
Prerequisites
- Autodesk VRED installed on every participating workstation, all on the same VRED version. VRED checks this on join and refuses to admit participants on a mismatched version.
- The IP address of the VRED collaboration server participants will join.
- Innoactive Spatial Runtime installed on each workstation.
- Innoactive Spatial app on each Apple Vision Pro.
- One Innoactive Spatial licence seat per participating workstation.
Setup that works today
Each participant repeats the following on their own workstation and headset.
1. Join the VRED collaboration session
In VRED, open the collaboration panel, enter the IP address of the collaboration server, and join the session as usual.
2. Enable collaborator rendering on the Vision Pro app
On the Apple Vision Pro, open Innoactive Spatial and enable the two settings that control how the other participants appear:
- "Show collaborators' hands and head" — renders the other participants' hands and avatars locally on the headset, independent of VRED.
- "Show VRED avatars additionally to locally rendered avatars" — adds VRED's own avatar rendering of the other participants to the streamed scene.
The two work together — enable both for the most complete representation; pick just one if you prefer the simpler look.
3. Turn on Microphone Streaming in the Spatial Runtime
On the workstation, open the Innoactive Spatial Runtime settings and switch Microphone Streaming ON. This routes the Apple Vision Pro's microphone into VRED as the CloudXR audio input, so the other participants can hear you. The change takes effect on the next streaming session — restart streaming after enabling it.
4. Turn off "Use Apple Foveated Streaming Framework" on the Vision Pro app
On the Apple Vision Pro, open Innoactive Spatial and disable Use Apple Foveated Streaming Framework (AFSF) for collaboration sessions. With AFSF on, voice audio and VRED avatars do not appear during collaboration today — see Known limitations below.
5. Start streaming
Start streaming from the Innoactive Spatial Runtime as usual. Once the session comes up, you should see the other participants' avatars in the VRED scene and hear their voice through the AVP.
Known limitations
Both of the following are being fixed in Innoactive Spatial build 26 (or later):
- With Use Apple Foveated Streaming Framework ON, voice audio and the VRED avatars did not appear during collaboration. This is the reason for step 4 above — until the fix ships, keep AFSF off for collaboration sessions.
- In some configurations the VRED avatars stayed hidden even with Show VRED avatars additionally to locally rendered avatars enabled. Same fix, same build.
Once build 26 (or later) ships and both fixes are verified, this article will be updated so AFSF can stay on during collaboration.
