Apple Vision Pro freezes when launching Innoactive Spatial on offline or restricted networks

Why Apple Vision Pro can freeze or reload Home when you launch Innoactive Spatial on an offline or restricted network, and the network settings that prevent it.

On a network without internet access, or one where a firewall restricts internet access, launching Innoactive Spatial can make Apple Vision Pro freeze for about 30 seconds. Buttons stop responding, then the Home View reloads, or the headset restarts. The next launch attempt often freezes again. In milder cases, the app does open, but only after about a minute.

This is a visionOS issue, not a fault in Innoactive Spatial. You can prevent it with a change to the network. No app update or reinstall is needed. We are working with our partners on a permanent fix to resolve this issue.

Who is affected

  • Networks without internet access, such as dedicated LANs for local streaming.
  • Restricted corporate or venue networks where a firewall, proxy or DNS filter blocks gateway.icloud.com.

Symptoms

  • You launch Innoactive Spatial from Home and the view freezes. The app window never opens.
  • After about 30 seconds, the Home View reloads or Apple Vision Pro restarts.
  • Or: visionOS does not restart, but the app takes about a minute to open.
  • It happens on a network without internet access, or where a firewall or proxy blocks most internet traffic. On an open network with internet, the app launches normally.
  • It typically starts after the headset has not reached Apple's servers for about a day. Shorter periods are unaffected.
  • On some networks it happens, on others it does not.
  • If you start the app with Wi-Fi disabled, it starts as usual.

Fix

Apply one of the following. Options 1 and 2 are changes to the network your Apple Vision Pro headsets use; option 1 is the most reliable. Options 3 and 4 are workarounds on the headset.

Option 1: Allow gateway.icloud.com

Allow outbound HTTPS from the headsets to this Apple endpoint:

HostProtocolPort
gateway.icloud.comTCP (HTTPS)443

The headsets also need working DNS for this host name. All other internet traffic can stay blocked. With this rule in place, the app launches normally.

Option 2: Make the network fail fast

If gateway.icloud.com cannot be allowed, configure the network to reject blocked requests immediately instead of ignoring them:

  • DNS: the local DNS server answers blocked names with NXDOMAIN or REFUSED. It must not leave queries unanswered. If the router has no DNS server, give the headsets a DNS server that does this.
  • Firewall: blocked outbound connections are rejected (TCP reset or ICMP unreachable), not dropped. In most firewalls this is the difference between a "reject" and a "drop" or "deny" rule.

The blocked request then fails within milliseconds and the app opens normally.

Option 3 (workaround): Turn off Wi-Fi while launching

If you cannot change the network, turn off Wi-Fi on Apple Vision Pro before you launch Innoactive Spatial. Without a network connection, the app opens normally. Once the app has started, turn Wi-Fi back on and connect to your streaming network.

Option 4 (workaround): Launch on a network with internet access

Connect Apple Vision Pro to another Wi-Fi network that has free internet access, such as a phone hotspot, and launch Innoactive Spatial. Then switch back to your usual network.
